Ramadan is a time of worship, reading of the Quran Al Kareen, giving charity, and, of course, fasting. It is also a time to reconnect with the poor, oppressed, and suffering people of this world. Millions of people currently have no food or safe drinking water, meaning they have no choice but to break their fast on whatever scant provisions they may have.
The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever gives iftaar to one who is fasting will have a reward like his, without that detracting from the reward of the fasting person in the slightest.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 807; Ibn Maajah, 1746.
In Syria, 9 million people–almost half of the population–is in need of food assistance. Of that, 6.5 million–in which 2.8 million are children, have been displaced within the country. 4.9 million of those people are in hard to reach areas, and 664,000 are living in one of the 18 besieged regions.
Mali, one of the poorest countries on earth, has over half the population living on less than 1.25 US dollars a day. In recent years, Mali’s food security has been rocked due to recurring disasters, including drought, erratic rainfall, and a military coup that triggered a political crisis, severely destabilizing the country.
In Palestine, acute restrictions on people’s livelihoods and movements have led to high levels of poverty. Food is available in markets, but the prices are often too high for poor families to afford. This limits the ability of these households to access adequate and nutritious food, with more than 27 percent (1.6 million people) suffering from food insecurity.
With that said, Heroic Hearts is making arrangements for daily hot Iftaar programs for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP’s), and the poorest people of Syria, Mali and Palestine. By donating as little as $45, you can ensure that one needy individual in the country of your choosing is provided one complete nutritious meal every day during the entire month of Ramadan. The Heroic Hearts Iftaar program supports individuals living in areas that have seen the most devastation and that are extremely hard to reach. Let us get together in this holy month and help those in need, for it is our duty as human beings to uplift one another in our service to God. With your help, we can make the joyous occasion of breaking fast a reality for those who are suffering. They are counting on your generous contribution. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
